Legendary showman and musical theatre impresario known for “Cats,” “The Phantom of the Opera,” “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” and “Jesus Christ Superstar.” He was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, was inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, and was a fellow of the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors.

He attended Westminster School in 1965, where he was a Queen’s Scholar. He later studied at the Royal College of Music.


He was knighted in 1992 and honored with a peerage by Queen Elizabeth II as recognition for his contributions to music.
